The 145,200 sf Health Solutions Innovation Center adjacent to the Mayo Clinic Phoenix supports interdepartmental research and collaborative programs of ASU and Mayo Clinic. It combines programs of ASU’s College of Health Solutions, College of Nursing & Health Innovation, and the Fulton Schools of Engineering, Entrepreneurship & Innovation with programs of Mayo Clinic. The building program is a unique blend of wet and dry research laboratories, simulation, workplace and meeting spaces. The design maximizes the amount of interdepartmental shared space to encourage a collaborative and creative environment. Passive solar design strategies limit heat gain in the hot, desert climate. To meet an accelerated schedule, the team worked closely with the CM’s pre-construction team to develop a predictive cost-analysis tool, used before and during programming, that helped key stakeholders prioritize wants and needs – allowing for a successful design within budgetary and timeline constraints.
