This project’s overall result allows fire fighters faster response times and additional health and safety benefits.

To support the growing functions of this fire station, an additional fourth apparatus bay became the primary focus for the design. The new and updated safety and health features include a new turn-out gear locker room, allowing clean gear to be stored inside the bays and away from running diesel engines, re-configured storage areas, additional natural light configuration, and a new fitness room addition.

The original scope also included adding new storage spaces; however, during design, the DFDG team established that re-configuring the existing storage spaces would provide for the same needs. All four apparatus bays are now clear of storage, resulting in faster response times.

Because of this space reconfiguration, the overall budget was allocated to building a new, 2,000-sf fitness room. The space includes an overhead beam, which attaches a variety of exercise equipment. This allows the room configuration to change quickly to adapt to daily workout requirements. A coiling door can be left open to allow the fitness area to include the rear apron, adding more space for outdoor workouts.
