Transforming Community Spaces for a Brighter Future at Peoria Public Library

This comprehensive library improvement project included a full refresh of the lobby and welcome desk, featuring updated finishes, new paint, and carpeting throughout the library. Visitors are now welcomed into modern, bright, and open spaces enhanced by natural light and increased space.

One of the highlights of the renovation is the revitalized youth wing, which now boasts an enclosed outdoor patio area. This space includes shade features, interactive gardens, and tactile walls, providing children of all ages with a more engaging and dynamic library experience.

The original design, done by another architect, required some changes to align with the city’s vision and budget. Our analysis identified the existing covered entry as an opportunity to expand the lobby and introduce a light well in the ceiling, bringing natural light into the space. The new entry also includes an exterior book drop and creates a welcoming, secure lobby experience.

Restrooms were updated to meet code and refresh their appearance. Throughout the project, DFDG focused on delivering high-impact renovations within a limited budget. By reassessing the initial schematic design, which included costly elements misaligned with the client’s vision, we developed a more cost-effective approach. This allowed us to achieve the project’s goals using budget-friendly materials and design strategies.
