Originally constructed in 1994, the Peoria Sports Complex set a precedent for Spring Training facilities by hosting both the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners. This innovative strategy has since become the model for several other Spring Training complexes throughout the Valley.
After twenty years, the facility needed to upgrade its amenities to meet the evolving demands of both teams. As teams began using their facilities year-round for rehabilitating injured players, player development, and future player scouting, it became essential to modernize the complex.
Each clubhouse was expanded to 68,000 square feet, with improvements including the renovation of both major and minor league training facilities, coaching staff areas, meeting spaces, and administrative offices. Additionally, updates were made to the existing weight rooms to better serve the teams’ needs.
The Peoria Sports Complex Clubhouse renovation is a 136,000 SF modernization of the Spring Training facility shared by the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners. Originally constructed in 1994, the complex was the first Spring Training facility in the country to house two major league teams in a single location, a model that has since been replicated across the Valley.
Peoria Sports Complex Clubhouse matters because it supports sports and recreation needs in Peoria, AZ. After 20 years of operation, the complex needed upgrades to meet the evolving demands of both teams. As Spring Training facilities increasingly serve year-round purposes, including player rehabilitation, player development, and scouting, it became essential to modernize the amenities to support those expanded functions.

When it opened in 1994, the Peoria Sports Complex set a precedent for Spring Training facilities by being the first to host two major league teams under one roof. This innovation of sharing infrastructure while maintaining separate, team-specific spaces became the template for multiple other Spring Training complexes built in the Phoenix metropolitan area in the years that followed.
The facility is used by the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners, primarily during the Spring Training season but increasingly year-round for player development, rehabilitation, and organizational activities. The renovation was designed specifically to support that expanded, year-round use.
